Ganga Prem Hospice is a spiritually-orientated charity, which serves terminally ill cancer patients. Located in Rishikesh at the foot of the Himalayas on the bank of the river Ganga, the Hospice provides medical, emotional and spiritual support for individuals and their grieving families.

The stated vision of Ganga Prem Hospice is to help alleviate the physical and psychological discomfort associated with progressive and incurable cancer in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Staff members view death as more than just a physical event. Care at Ganga Prem Hospice touches every aspect of a patient’s life: physical, emotional, spiritual and social. The Hospice creates a caring and supportive environment in which patients can pass through this transition with a minimum of distress.

The Ganga Prem Hospice has been established with the objective of providing palliative care to end-of-life cancer patients. The majority of Ganga Prem Hospice's patients are under-privileged. They are in the terminal stages of their disease, in need of palliative and medical care help. Most have a paucity of finances, and family members who are not equipped to take round-the-clock care at home

At Ganga Prem Hospice, we attempt to offer unconditional support and love to each patient and carer, as we would to our own family. All effort is made to lessen the agonising symptoms that many patients experience in the last days of their lives.

The in-patient facility in Rishikesh was inaugurated in February, 2017. It is only the second cancer hospice in North India. Ganga Prem Hospice also runs out-patient and home care services. We offer bereavement counselling for families and palliative training programmes for health-care professionals.

Our home care service is the only one of its kind in the North Indian state of Uttarakhand. Our teams travel to cancer patients' homes daily to provide medical, social, emotional and spiritual support to the patient and their families. Visits are carried out in the areas of Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun. Our patients come from varied backgrounds, belong to different religions and have varied social status. All have in common the pain and trauma of dealing with advanced cancer. All of our patients are treated with the same love and care by the Hospice team.
